http://www.hotwired.com The site of hours I did not find this an attractive site. To me, the different colours and the different patterns clashed together as well with the lines in the background. I found the flashing giffs irritating after a while as there were different ones flashing and a few at a time. I don't believe that the visual concepts of this design went with the information it provided. It took a while to understand what to do with this site. After figuring it out, I quite like the idea of the rollovers, just scrolling over the giffd the information would appear.
Location, location, location My Place- This is a nice idea to have a site of photographs by children and what the photos mean to them. They are creative photos which are interesting to look at. Though I found it was too much and became tedious. The site looked good with the photos on a black background as if they were mounted, making them very dynamic. The idea of the photos being the links, where you click on the picture, is a simple and easy way to move through the site. Destination- One page with 3D animation. I can only guess that a funride and satellite dish with a plane in the background, is symbolic in ways for destination. It does not appear to be for purpose, but as an artwork. Though the animated giff is clever.
Impulse Freak I found this site appealing. It is a cartoon comic story that is bright and attractive as well as alternative. The cartoons are drawn in circles instead of strips with parts bleeding over the edge. It is different from other comics in the way the story becomes a pick your own adventure story. I like the way they have set the site out, that what you are reading is in the middle in a large circle. What you have just read is to the left and what you want to read is to the right. The site is not complicated, just click on what circle you want to read. It is a comic on the web for entertainment.
We need a ride This site is a 3D animation with two groovy animal characters. There is a soundtrack to it while the characters are singing the story in rhyme. I like the way you see the scene from different views, from the top and the front, it makes the animation more appealing than 2D. I know this would be more technical to put together than animations in giff builder.
http://www.abc.net.au/stuff-art.com Creatures from the stars At first I was unsure what this site was and what to be expected. Then a story starts, it became interesting with relating pictures. It uses a basic design with centre alignment and only black and white is used. I found the pictures took too long to load considering there is not much visual element to the site. The site could be jazzed up a bit to be more exciting. It uses the basic procedure of clicking to read on and click on the picture for that particular story. It leads off into different paths, then joins on to others as not to miss out on any information in the site and is not confussing.
Identikit This site consists of a game changing features of people, purely for entertainment. It has a clean and organised presentation with a simple set of instructions so it is easily understood and workable. The site uses a different operation than most sites would, to change the sections of the faces you are required to click and drag, a technicality I have not seen on the net.
http://www.sapient.com This site consists of a clean and corporate design with appropriate white space and other design principals. It has the same layout throughout the site with variations on each page. The header is repeated on each page and the site is presented like a folder or file. It makes good use of rollovers which is a dominant feature throughout the site that is very effective and looks professional.
